Jim Bridenstine, Administrator of NASA, announced today that the NASA worm logo will be on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket for the next crewed spaceflight. SpaceX’s Crew Dragon is slated to lift off NASA Astronauts, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, soon this year.
The worm is back! When the @SpaceX Falcon 9 lifts off carrying @NASA_Astronauts aboard #CrewDragon, it will sport the iconic symbol to mark the return of human spaceflight on American rockets from American soil. This will be the first time since 1992 (28 years) the worm logo will be used for sapce-flight. You may have only seen it at retail outlets from coffee mugs to apparel. However this beauty was/is on the Saturn V, Hubble telescope, Space shuttle and many other spaceflight vehicles from 1975 – 1992.
Now it’s BACK! We are very excited to see this iconic logo reappear for human spaceflight and hope it is here to stay.
